Introduction
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
are emerging fields that originate from the interaction between different
scientific domains as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine and Pharmacy,
and their relationship with different Engineering fields as Electronics,
Chemistry and Material Engineering. This gives a strong interdisciplinary
character to these fields, which constitute new research and development
areas with an increasing activity at international level.

The main objective
in these fields is the knowledge and control of the fundamental structure
of matter at the nanoscale, and their exploitation for the design and
development of new products and systems with potential incidence in
a wide range of fields with significant socio-economical impact, as:
Medicine
and Pharmacy
Food and Agricultural Industries
Aerospace industry
Information Society Technologies
Energy
Environmental Sciences
This
Master constitutes an ambitious interuniversitary action that involves
Lecturers, Professors and Researchers from groups with a significant
activity in the fields of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. This involves
four of the main Universities in Catalonia (including two of the main
Research and Technological Universities in Spain, located in Barcelona)
and research institutes in the areas of Barcelona and Tarragona (including
Institutes integrated in the Spanish Superior Research Council (CSIC)),
under the coordination of the University of Barcelona:
University
of Barcelona (UB) (Coordinator): Institute of
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the UB
University Rovira i Virgili (URV)
Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)
University of Girona (UdG)
Catalan Institute in Chemical Research (ICIQ)
Catalan Institute of Bioengineering (IBEC) Barcelona Institute of
Microelectronics (IMB-CNM-CSIC)
Barcelona Institute of Material Sciences (ICMAB-CSIC)
